Dog-Friendly Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers Guide 2026

If there's one thing we love around here, it's finding an excuse to pack the car and head off on another adventure - and this one came with flowers, sunshine and plenty of sniffing opportunities.

We headed up to Toowoomba to get a sneak peek at the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers before the official event kicked off. And after spending the day exploring with Bolt, we can confirm - it's definitely worth adding to your spring adventure list.

What is the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers?

If you've never been, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is one of Queensland's biggest celebrations of spring. Every year the city comes alive with colourful floral displays, gardens, food and entertainment, spread across parks and gardens all over Toowoomba - easy to make a full day, or even a weekend, out of it.

Dogs are welcome at Queens Park

Queens Park is pet friendly, with leashed dogs welcome to enjoy the park and the floral displays alongside you. There's an off-leash area within the wider park too, if your pup needs to burn off some energy before or after the flower-filled wandering. You'll also find water fountains, poo bags and bins scattered through the park, which makes visiting with your dog that little bit easier.

Which obviously made it the perfect place for a day out with Bolt.

We decided to get an early look at the Carnival this year, and taking Bolt along made the day even better. It wasn't just about stopping to admire the flowers - it was about wandering around together and letting him take in something completely new.

And if you know Bolt, you'll know a day out with him means lots of sniffing, lots of people watching, and roughly 47,000 stops because apparently every single blade of grass needs investigating. He was more interested in the smells than the flowers, but we let him believe he was appreciating the garden design.

Queens Park Botanic Gardens

This is where you'll find the standout displays. The gardens cover a huge area, with tree-lined paths, open lawns and colourful beds - during the Carnival, more than 50,000 annuals and 5,000 bulbs come together for the spring display. There's something pretty special about walking through it with your dog while everything's in bloom. Prepare to stop every couple of minutes for another photo - because obviously, your dog needs to be photographed in front of every single flower.

Second stop: Laurel Bank Park

Once you've explored Queens Park, jump back in the car and head over to Laurel Bank Park for another dose of flowers. It was our second stop of the day, with beautiful gardens and plenty of colourful backdrops for the all-important dog photos. Bolt was, naturally, more than happy to pose for another round - at this point we're pretty sure he thought the whole day was an elaborate photoshoot dedicated to him. We weren't complaining.

Dogs need to stay on leash while exploring Laurel Bank Park, so make sure your pup is safely secured before heading off. There's also a dog water fountain beside the Thomas the Tank Engine hedge, a handy stop if your pup is thirsty after all the exploring - and yes, we absolutely stopped for a drink. Keeping your adventure buddy hydrated matters, especially on a day full of walking and photo stops.

Our favourite part? Making a day of it

One of the things we love most about exploring places like Toowoomba with Bolt is that we don't rush it. We'd rather wander, stop for photos, find somewhere for a bite to eat and just enjoy being outside together. The Carnival makes this easy - across the three weeks there's gardens, food, live entertainment and events happening right across the city, so there's always more to see than just the flowers.

And yes, there's a Paw Parade

Now for the part that immediately caught our attention. The Paw Parade is happening at Queens Park on Sunday 4 October, from 8:30am to 12pm - the perfect excuse to bring your four-legged best friend along. There'll also be a variety of pet market stalls, so you can grab them a little treat or go all out on a whole new pawdrobe, because obviously they can never have too many accessories. It rounds out the final weekend of the 2026 Carnival, and could be the perfect way to finish off your spring adventure.

A few tips for visiting with your dog

• 🐾  Keep your dog on lead at Queens Park and Laurel Bank Park, unless you're in the designated off-leash area.
• 🐾  Bring your own water. There are dog-friendly fountains around, but you'll likely walk more than you expect.
• 🐾  Go early if you can. It's much nicer exploring before the day warms up and gets busy.
• 🐾  Bring your camera. There will be a lot of dog-and-flower photo opportunities.
• 🐾  Check the rules for each location. Not every Carnival garden or event allows dogs, so check before you go.

Would we do it again?

Absolutely. The best adventures aren't always the biggest or most elaborate ones - sometimes it's just jumping in the car, heading somewhere new and spending the day exploring with your best mate. That's exactly what the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers was. Beautiful gardens, fresh air, two parks to explore, a new place for Bolt to sniff and enough photo opportunities to fill a camera roll.
