Impact on US Orders: De Minimis is ending 29th August 2025 (UPDATED)
Updated: 25th August 2025
We will be temporarily pausing shipping to the USA until we are able to work out a solution.
Unfortunately we have had to make the tough decision to remove shipping to the USA from midnight (AEST) tonight (25th August 2025).
CBP have advised Australia Post that duties/tariffs/taxes must be collected on goods prior to entering the country - not when they arrive in the USA (as was originally thought). However, Australia Post and ourselves do not currently have the capabilities to collect the fees at our end.
Therefore until we can work out a solution to this, we have had to make the decision to pause shipping to the USA.
This is definitely not the outcome we were hoping for and are devastated that we will not be able to ship to our American friends and family.
We want to thank you for your continued support and hope we will be back very soon for you!

We wanted to let you know about an important update for our US customers.
Starting 29th August, the US government will be removing the de minimis threshold for imports into the US.
You ask, what is the de minimis threshold?
Before 29th August 2025, the US had a de minimis threshold of $800 USD. This meant:
- Any goods shipped to the US valued at $800 or less were generally exempt from customs duties and taxes.
- Orders above this value were subject to customs duties, taxes, and fees.
What does the removal of the De Minimis Threshold mean for me?
While this change is outside of our control, we want to make sure you’re prepared. Here’s what this means for you:
- Orders most likely will incur additional customs fees, duties and tariffs upon arrival into the US (see below for what we know about these)
- Delivery times may be affected if customs processing takes longer.
- We recommend checking with US customs for guidance on potential duties or fees that may be charged.
What are the fees that will be charged?
Unfortunately we are unable to estimate these at checkout as the tariffs and duties are constantly being reviewed and changed by the US Government and are completely confusing as to what is in effect and what is not.

However, the US Government has decided, that for up to 6 months, USPS (who we use for the delivery of shipments once they land in the US) will decide how the import fees are charged - this will be 1 of 2 ways:
First method: a country specific tariff (ad valorem) - meaning that a % based on the products country of origin will be charged (from our understanding this is between 10-30%)
Second option: a flat fee of between $80-$200 per package will be charged (with no consideration to the $ value of the order)
Unfortunately we don't get to choose which option USPS uses to apply the fees, so you could essentially be charged 10-30% of the value or somewhere between $80-$200! We do not know :-(
You can find the White House Fact Sheet about the de minimis threshold removal here.
At BIG & LITTLE DOGS, we're committed to making your shopping experience as smooth as possible, so we are trying to find a work around so that there are no surprise fees for you. However, this is something that will be a work in progress. While we are currently leaving US Shipping available, we may need to remove it temporarily if fees become exorbitant and the customer experience is ruined.
We thank you for taking the time to read this information and thank you for your understanding and being a valued part of the BIG & LITTLE DOGS family.
If you do have any questions email us: info@bigandlittledogs.com and we will get back to you.
